A rebate can reduce the cost of an upgrade—but only if the product, property, customer and installation meet the rules. Check eligibility before ordering equipment.
Tankless and heat-pump water heaters
Gas tankless rebates may be offered through SoCalGas for qualifying models and customers. Electric heat-pump water-heater incentives may come through LADWP or statewide programs such as TECH Clean California. These are different technologies with different utility requirements.
Heat pumps and HVAC upgrades
Heat-pump HVAC incentives can depend on the electric utility, equipment efficiency, installation type and available program funding. A rebate does not automatically mean the equipment is right for the house; duct condition, electrical capacity and room-by-room comfort still matter.
Panel, wiring and electrification incentives
Some programs support electrical upgrades when they are required for qualifying electrification work. Eligibility can depend on household income, technology, service territory and program rules. Do not assume a panel replacement qualifies by itself.
LADWP water-saving programs
LADWP periodically offers incentives for qualifying water-saving devices and landscaping measures. Product lists and amounts can change. Check the official residential rebates page before purchase and keep receipts, model information and installation evidence.
Federal tax credits
Tax credits are different from utility rebates. Eligibility depends on federal law, placed-in-service date, property use and the taxpayer’s situation. Some federal residential energy provisions changed after 2025, so use the current IRS page and ask a tax professional before counting a credit in the project budget.
How to protect your rebate
- Identify the utility serving the property—LADWP, Southern California Edison, SoCalGas or another provider.
- Open the official program page and confirm it is accepting applications.
- Verify the exact model and efficiency requirement before purchase.
- Check whether pre-approval or an approved contractor is required.
- Confirm whether the rebate can be combined with another incentive.
- Save the invoice, receipt, model/serial number, permit and installation photos.
- Submit before the deadline; programs may close when funding is exhausted.
