LUXURY KITCHEN PLANNING

Choose how you cook before choosing how the kitchen looks.

High-end appliances affect cabinets, ventilation, gas or electrical capacity, counter space and the way the kitchen is organized. Exact model numbers belong in the drawings before cabinets are released.

Range, cooktop or rangetop?

Wall ovens and specialty ovens

  • Single wall oven: one full-size oven at a comfortable height.
  • Double wall oven: two full-size cavities for entertaining or different temperatures.
  • Speed oven: microwave/convection or other fast-cooking modes, depending on model.
  • Steam oven: steam or combination cooking; water and cleaning requirements vary.
  • Warming drawer: holds plates or food; coordinate temperature, ventilation and handle line.
  • Built-in pizza oven: gas, electric or wood-fired specialty system requiring listed clearances, ventilation and fire-safe construction.

How do you create the stone or plaster hood look?

The visible “stone oven” look is often a custom hood surround above a range or rangetop—not the cooking appliance itself. The listed hood insert handles ventilation; framing, noncombustible clearances and stone, tile or plaster create the architectural form.

Do not design the shell first. Select the range/rangetop and hood insert, then coordinate capture area, CFM, duct route, make-up air, service access and manufacturer clearances.

Panel-ready and hidden appliances

Panel-ready refrigerators and dishwashers accept custom cabinet panels. Integrated models are designed for a more flush relationship with cabinetry. The cabinetmaker needs exact panel dimensions, maximum weight, hinge clearances, ventilation and toe-kick movement.

What is an appliance garage?

An appliance garage hides coffee machines, toaster, blender and chargers behind a pocket, lift-up or retractable door. It needs landing space, outlets, heat/steam awareness, door clearance and safe operating instructions.

Seven ways to make the kitchen look high-end

  1. Limit competing finishes.
  2. Align tall cabinet, refrigerator and oven datum lines.
  3. Use appliance panels where visual calm matters.
  4. Give the cooking wall one clear focal point.
  5. Hide outlets and task lighting without reducing usability.
  6. Coordinate stone seams, slab movement and hood centerline.
  7. Design storage around actual cooking habits.

When should appliances be selected?

During design. Purchase timing depends on lead time, return policy, construction schedule and storage responsibility. Cabinets, electrical, plumbing, gas and ventilation should never be finalized from a marketing width alone.
